Frequently Asked Questions
What is Robotic Surgery?
Robotic surgery is a type of minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. The term “robotic” often misleads people into believing that a robot is performing the surgery. Your surgeon performs surgery with the da Vinci Robot by using instruments that he or she guides via a console. The da Vinci system translates your surgeon’s hand movements at the console in real time, allowing your surgeon to bend and rotate the instruments inside the body with a greater range of motion and precision.
What are the advantages of Robotic Surgery?
The advantage of robotic surgery includes enhanced dexterity and three-dimensional visualization for the surgeon which allows for extreme precision, excellent outcomes and the highest level of patient safety in both routine and complex operations. In addition, the surgery is able to be performed through a few small incisions which allows for less pain and scarring, faster recovery and improved cosmesis when compared to open surgery.
